Paradise Valley Residence
Paradise Valley, Montana
In the Paradise Valley, wind is relentless through much of the year, so taking a cue from agrarian planning (clustered farm structures), the residential program was separated into two forms and oriented to create a sheltered outdoor space and backdrop for viewing the Absaroka Mountain range. The two story volume turns the master suite into a retreat, isolating itself from the more heavily used spaces under the single story shed roof. The neutral interior color palette keeps the focus on the ever changing exterior light and weather patterns. The primary living space remains uncluttered to maximize the exterior views by concealing the t.v., books and games behind flush wood doors adjacent to the fireplace.
