Block 106 Mixed-Use

Bozeman, Montana

Block 106 exists within a part of town recently re-zoned as historic mixed-use. That zoning recognized the existing industrial character of the neighborhood, but also the changing dynamic of businesses to allow for a neighborhood-scaled node within Bozeman's residential northeast neighborhood. The massing takes a cue from adjacent agrarian structures with their deliberate and functionally driven forms. The project is sited to create pockets of semi-public space adjacent to the street and semi-private spaces adjacent to the alley, responding to the commercial and residential uses respectively. The primary forms are subtracted to define private exterior space for each residential unit.
